The NYS Dept of Agriculture is supporting the FDA’s recommendation (not, it turns out, an official ruling) that all crops that were underwater be pulled from the market. Deb and the rest at Stoneledge Farm have decided to abide by this recommendation, or else they would risk liability for a major lawsuit from any member who might get sick. Their decision is understandable, and devastating. But losing half a season is easier to handle than the possibility of literally losing the farm.
So that’s it for the season. Needless to say, the farm festival next weekend has been canceled. Peter (firstname.lastname@example.org) is planning to set up meetings with members who are interested to explain the farm’s decision and discuss how they plan on moving forward. And Deb will be setting up online registration for next year within a month or so.
We’ll post more information as we get it, about meetings with Peter and registration for 2012.
